History

20140313_152330 Some One Hundred Six years back a young woman died during delivery. This untimely and premature death of the lady shocked people over here and encourage them to think out ways and means to prevent such tragedies in future cases. Six leading citizens of the city met together and as a result of this meeting, the magnificent donations by the six gentlemen, the present Hospital was born. At the outside a well qualified and efficient lady doctor was appointed. Just in the beginning it was only a dispensary, rendering outstanding service to the the mothers and children. The dispensary was very exemplary and people took advantage in a large number. Considering the work done by the dispensary and the importance of the same his Highness granted a very valuable land to have the Trust a building of its own and the present building was constructed in 1926 on the site. 20140313_152342Since the inception of sixty years back the hospital has given advice and information to the health of the would be mothers and child care and for giving treatment to the patients at very normal charges. This is given to all people irrespective of cast and creed, high or law, for motive of this institution is that treatment is rendered on equal basis to the class of patients and this tradition set up by the pioneers is strictly maintained today. Because of paucity of funds, expansion of dispensary could not be done beyond a maternity home, till 1926.

20140313_162804During 1964 to 1979 because of some litigation, the hospital remained under administration by Court receivers. In 1979 the entire administration of the hospital was handed over to the present board of Trustees by Honorable the Gujarat High Court, and ever since the Hospital is run and maintained by the board of Trustees. During the last Fourty five years and since then the Trustees took  over, the Hospital have taken very rapid steps towards further developments, a qualified  Gynec and Obstetrician has been taken on staff on permanent basis and that meets the  need of surgical cases and efficient treatment for diseases of women. It is permanently a hospital for Women and Children and the children too are also not neglected, an expert in the branch a pediatrician is on the staff of the Hospital and he advises the mothers regarding child care and treatment of the children.

20140313_152407In the nearest future once again the construction of buildings for children section to accommodate 30 to 40 indoor patients will be taken up and it is hoped that the Hospital will be a complete unit as a hospital for women and children.
The treatment to both women and children is given at a very nominal cost and free to indigent patients. I can say that this type of hospital is the only Hospital in this area from the outset and till today, doing women services to the community. The hospital maintains an efficient and well qualified nursing staff and servants and the total budget to meet with these expenses goes to approximately 1 crores a year and is likely to go much beyond looking to the advantage taken by a large number of patients.
